New Year, New Goals

New Year, New Goals, 5 goals to help me be a better person in 2017 and forward!!

Every year I like to set new goals for myself for the year! I don't always stick to all of them, but setting something up, writing it down and making it public helps me to keep focused on what is important to me!  I have thought about these 5 things that I really want to work on, and I'm excited to share my 5 BIG goals for the year, and you may be surprised by what they are!

New Year, New Goals - A dedicated family time every night will help me not miss the little things as my babies start to grow up!

My babies are growing up WAY to quickly!!  I can't believe how fast time is going, and that before I know it they will both be in school all day every day!!  Right now our nightly routine doesn't allow a lot of family time.  I have decided that we are going to be changing that, and now EVERY night we after dinner and before bed as a family we are going to do something together.  We are going to draw pictures, color, work on a puzzle, read books, anything not electronic, as long as we do it as a family! I know that I am going to look back and miss these moments when they want to snuggle with me, so I want to make sure I take advantage of all 365 of them this year!!

New Year, New Goals - picking up one room a night will help keep the house clutter free, and help keep the chaos out of our home!

As much as I would like to hire someone to clean my house, I know that isn't something that is in our world right now.  Instead, I am going to work on a rotating schedule, where I make sure to pick up or clean one room each day.  This way I won't feel over run with everything that needs to get done on the weekends, and I can involve the kids and make it more of a game.  By doing this it will help me feel like our house is in order and not chaos too! Luckily we just put away Christmas, so it isn't too bad right now, but its a good thing you can't see my office!! What a mess!! So picking up one room a night will help me ensure that my office doesn't keep turning into this mess it is now!

New Year, New Goals - Plan out your meals and stick to them so you don't have to throw food away and you have dinner ready to go when you get home!

I don't know why, but I love planning out our meals! I don't know if it is the excitement about looking on Pinterest, or finding something new that my family will love, but I do enjoy sitting at the beginning of each month and planning out our meals.  With that said there are some days that I leave for work and forget to throw something into the crock pot, or make sure we have a certain ingredient and then my best laid plans turn into driving somewhere to pick up dinner.  I really want to make sure I stick to our meals this year, and make good use of my time! Why spend all of that time at the beginning of the month if I'm just going to throw it away!  For those of you who have been asking, there will be more about this coming soon! I promise!

New Year, New Goals - No technology at least once a week is a great way to spend time on those things that you might not have time for any more!

I'm super excited about this one! I tried to do this last year and it didn't work.  I know that my phone can get in the way of me missing things with my kids, but I have been getting better about putting it away with them.  I am really, really, REALLY bad about putting it away after they go to bed though.  I'm sure you can relate that you have to scroll through IG one more time, to see if there was anything else you missed.  I am confident that by doing this it will be a great reason why my husband and I have to spend time together and won't be lost in the world of our phones and then realize it is 10 PM and we need to get some sleep before another work day.

New Year, New Goals - Make time for yourself! So often we take care of everything else, and we forget about us!

One thing I am really bad about, is making time for me.  I received a gift card for a massage for my birthday when I turned 28! I celebrated my 30th birthday in 2016!!  Sorry mom and dad if you are reading this!  I'm really good at planning play dates for my kids, or dinners with friends, but I rarely make time for just me.  My hair is graying, but I don't have a hair appointment set either.  My goal is to set aside at least one hour a month where I do something for me.  Even if that means sleeping in, and making sure my hubby is in charge of the kids that morning!

  1. I really like this. As a teacher we know what it means to not have enough time in a day. These goals with be very helpful. One thing I see as an issue with me and my fiancé is that we always come home talking about work. Maybe that can be another goal I set for myself is having one night out of the week where we don't talk about work at all. Thank you for sharing these goals.
